CFM Sends 21 tons of Food to Haiti for Distribution

Thursday, February 11, 2010

On February 11, a semi truck full of dried soup and canned beans was packed up in Dinuba, California and sent out to feed the hungry. This shipment was destined for Pignon, Haiti in the northern mountains of Haiti.

Through generous donations from individuals, a Haiti Benefit concert at Kuppajoe Christian Nightclub in Fresno and an organization called Gleanings for the Hungry, 21 tons of food was packed onto the truck. The truck travels across the United States by land to Miami, Florida and then the shipment is loaded on a ship destined for Cap Haitien and then on to the mountain city of Pignon.

"The people are so excited and grateful," says Gerby Seriphin, one of the young pastors in Pignon and also a major organizer in the Food Distribution Program through Christian Friendship Ministries.

The same day the food was sent from California another container full of medical supplies, clothes and other items was sent from Virginia Beach through the Gateway Free Will Bible Church. That container is also going to Cap Haitien where it will be transported to Pignon.

Phyllis Bass, a member of Gateway Church, reports that this container is full of donated items from their congregation. The hope is to put all of this food and supplies into the hands of Haitians who have relocated to the Pignon area after the Jan. 12 earthquake.
